how did nat turner feel about secession?
Explanation:
There is no record of Nat Turner expressing his feelings about secession, as he lived and died before the American Civil War, which is typically associated with secession. Nat Turner was an enslaved African American who led a rebellion against slaveholders in Virginia in 1831, decades before the Civil War. He was captured, tried, and executed for his role in the rebellion.
It is possible that Nat Turner may have had opinions about secession or the issue of slavery in the United States, but there is no evidence to suggest what those opinions might have been. Additionally, as an enslaved person who lived in a society that denied him basic human rights and freedoms, it is unlikely that he had the opportunity to express his views publicly or engage in political discussions.

Polk, a supporter of Manifest Destiny, pledged to conquer Oregon Country, a region in the Pacific Northwest.
Early in the 19th century, a protracted dispute between the United States and the United Kingdom involved a sizable portion of the Pacific Northwest of North America known as Oregon Country. The territory covered by the 1818 Treaty included all of the country that was north of 42°N latitude, south of 54°40′N latitude, west of the Rocky Mountains all the way to the Pacific Ocean, and east of the Rocky Mountains all the way to the A campaign is a planned set of activities that people carry out over a period of time in order to achieve something such as social or political change.. In accordance with Article III of the 1818 treaty, both countries were granted joint control for ten years, land could be claimed, and all mercantile commerce was assured of unrestricted sailing. However, the international agreement's provisions were contested by both nations. The British called the area Columbia District, whilst Americans called it Oregon Country. Prior to the entrance of American settlers in the middle of the 1830s, which led to the establishment of the Provisional Government of Oregon, British and French Canadian fur traders had already invaded Oregon Country. Ships from all countries participating in the marine fur trade frequently visited its coastal regions to the north of the Columbia River; throughout the 1790s and 1810s, many of the vessels came from Boston. The Columbia Department of the Hudson's Bay Company, whose operations reached tributaries of the Yukon River, included the majority of the Oregon Country, north into New Caledonia, and beyond 54°40′N. President Polk, a supporter of Manifest Destiny, pledged to acquire the region in the Pacific Northwest known as Oregon Country.
What conception of manifest destiny did President Polk have?In his first State of the Union Address, delivered on December 2, 1845, James K. Polk advocated for the US to include all of North America. The idea that the US should extend "from sea to shining sea" was first expressed by James Polk, the nation's first president. It was not Polk's idea of Manifest Destiny. It was not Polk's idea of Manifest Destiny. Newspaper editor John O'Sullivan is credited with coining the phrase initially. Democrats supported it because they considered white Anglo-Saxon America as a Christian civilization with a legitimate claim to the entire continent, regardless of the lengthy histories of the local aboriginal populations or the European forces they encountered.
Polk implemented Manifest Destiny by annexing the ostensibly autonomous Texas and transferring portions of nine states to Mexico. His address continued by asserting "our title to the entire Oregon Territory," which was followed by the assertion that "The civilized world will see in these proceedings a spirit of liberal concession on the part of the United States." He described this enormous expansion of the US as a "bloodless achievement," which is rather perplexing.

why did radical abolitionist william lloyd garrison criticize the free soil movement bitterly in the late 1840s? group of answer choices
William Lloyd Garrison criticized the Free Soil movement bitterly in the late 1840s due to his strong belief in immediate and unconditional emancipation of all slaves.
1. He saw the Free Soil movement as compromising on the principles of abolitionism by focusing on preventing the expansion of slavery rather than advocating for its complete eradication.
2. William Lloyd Garrison was a radical abolitionist who advocated for the immediate and unconditional emancipation of all slaves. He viewed slavery as a moral evil and believed that any compromise or gradual approach to ending it was unacceptable. Therefore, when the Free Soil movement emerged in the late 1840s, Garrison bitterly criticized it.
3. The Free Soil movement was primarily concerned with preventing the spread of slavery into newly acquired territories rather than seeking its complete abolition. They aimed to maintain the Western territories as free states, arguing that the expansion of slavery would threaten the economic opportunities of white laborers. While this position was seen by some as a step forward in opposing slavery, Garrison viewed it as a compromise that fell short of his uncompromising stance.
4. Garrison saw the Free Soil movement as insufficient because it did not challenge the institution of slavery itself. He believed that focusing solely on limiting the expansion of slavery would perpetuate its existence in the existing slave states and compromise the fundamental principles of immediate emancipation. For Garrison, anything less than the complete eradication of slavery was a betrayal of the cause and a moral compromise.
5. In conclusion, William Lloyd Garrison criticized the Free Soil movement bitterly in the late 1840s because he believed that it compromised on the principles of abolitionism. Garrison's firm commitment to immediate and unconditional emancipation led him to see the Free Soil movement as a flawed compromise that failed to address the core issue of slavery itself.

feature of the Taft-Hartley Act
-granted the president the ability to suspend strikes
-forced union officials to swear that they were not communists
-prohibited mandatory union membership in unionized workplaces
Last option . The features of the Taft-Hartley Act: prohibited mandatory union membership in unionized workplaces
What did the Taft-Hartley Act do?The Taft-Hartley Act, also known as the Labor Management Relations Act, was passed by the U.S. Congress in 1947. The legislation was designed to restrict the power of labor unions and strengthen the position of employers in labor disputes. Some of the key features of the Taft-Hartley Act included:
Prohibition of mandatory union membership in unionized workplaces: This meant that workers could not be forced to join a union in order to work in a unionized workplace.
Granting the president the ability to suspend strikes: The act allowed the president to order a cooling-off period of up to 80 days in cases where a strike threatened national security or the public welfare.
Forcing union officials to swear that they were not communists: The act required union officials to sign an affidavit stating that they were not members of the Communist Party or any other organization that advocated the overthrow of the U.S. government.
The Taft-Hartley Act was controversial at the time it was passed and remains a contentious issue today. Supporters of the act argue that it helped to balance the power between employers and unions, while opponents argue that it unfairly restricted the rights of workers to organize and bargain collectively.

Explain why William Rufus was
able to defeat the rebellion of
1088.
You may use the following in your
answer:
• Bishop Odo
• the Church in England.
You must also use information of
your own.
12 marks
Answer: One way in which William Rufus defeated the 1088 rebellion was because of his tactics. Firstly he managed to effectively ‘buy off’ many Norman barons in Eastern Normandy. He did this by raising an army of his knights in England and demanding the money from their knight service rather than take them to Normandy. He then used this money to bribe Normans to not support his brother, Robert Curthose. This would have caused the rebellion to fail as it would starve Odo and Robert of vital military support therefore weakening them and reducing their numbers. Another example of William’s tactics was his promise to his English subjects that he would restore many Anglo-Saxon laws. He promised lower taxes and an end to many of the hated ‘forest laws’. This would have helped weaken the rebellion as it would given support to William’s cause. Many would have joined local militias to fight off the rebels as they would have wanted William to stay in power to end these hated Norman laws. A final example of this was his six week siege of Pevensey Castle. This is where Odo and Robert of Mortain were based and William managed to surround the castle and starve them of supplies. This would have weakened the rebellion, as it was huge defeat for them and led to the capture of two of its leaders (Odo and Robert of Mortain). This victory would have boosted William’s popularity in England and would have made many nobles less likely to rebel against him as it looked as if his victory was inevitable.
Another way in which he defeated the rebellion was because of his support within the Church. William had been accepted as his father’s successor by Archbishop Lanfranc and was coronated by him without the authorisation of the Witan. This would have caused the rebellion to weaken as Lanfranc had so much power that many would have feared fighting against a king with the backing of God. By fighting William they could potentially be excommunicated from the Church – this fear would have stopped many joining Odo therefore weakening it. Another example of this support can be seen in the west, when Roger de Lacy and Roger de Montgomery were defeated by a holy army raised by Bishop Wulfstan. This would have caused the rebellion to fail as it prevented these forces on the Marcher borders from joining with those in Norwich, Somerset and Wiltshire.
A final way in which the rebellion was defeated was because William captured and exiled Odo. As various rebellions were being crushed, Odo and his brother Robert held up at Pevsensey castle. After being captured there, Odo escaped to Rochester Castle where he held out hoping that Robert Curthose would arrive from Normandy with an army. Odo was effectively abandoned by Robert and was forced to surrender due to lack of supplies and the threat of disease. He was then stripped of his lands, titles and exiled. This would have resulted in the rebellion failing as it left the rebels without a leader or any structure. It was a symbol that William had been victorious and many rebels would have lost any hope to keep fighting.

to defeat the Confederate forces? *
(10 Points)

The correct answer to this open question is the following.
Although there are no options attached we can say the following.
What helped the Union military in being able to defeat the Confederate forces was that the troops of the Confederation, led by General Robert. E. Lee, withdrew from the battleground and march away from the combat, dropping the idea to invade the Union's territory. This represented a victory, a strategic one, for the Union troops.
The Battle of Antietam was fought on September 17, 1862, as part of the hostilities in the Civil War. The scene of the battle was Sharpsburg, Maryland. The main goal of the Confederated troops of the Northern Virginia Army -led by General Robert E. Lee- was to invade the North, but Union General George McClellan, who led the Army of the Potomac, impeded it. Historians say that it was a bloody battle in which both armies lost many men.
The Battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg is different from previous battles in the Civil War because it was the first battle on Union soil.

Answer:
Okay these are some tough questions... but I’ll try my best here:
1. Well, its hard to say because we don’t know what was going through that man’s head. Personally I would say he couldn’t be appeased. For example there was the land given to hitler in agreeance that he’d stop invading Europe — unsurprisingly, he invaded Poland and overturned that agreement. So personally I believe he wouldn’t have been satisfied, at least not for a long time.
2. This is a really hard one... The reason the United States bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki was because the Japanese were refusing to surrender. While the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed hundreds of thousands of people, some argue that it actually prevented them from continuing to fight the U.S. Some even state that if the Japanese continued, they would have continued fighting until the last person. It is a truly tough question, because it still killed so many people.

"how might a state lose or gain one of its electoral votes"
The electoral college votes are based on the number of senators (2 for each state) plus the number of representatives (roughly one for every 500,000 people) per state. Thus Florida has 27 Electors (2 for the senators and 25 for the c13million population).
Each state (and the District of Columbia) is guaranteed at least three Electors however small it is (2 senators and 1 representative) so Wyoming which has a population of 453,000 gets the same number of electors as say Nebrasksa with 800,000.
It would therefore pay to wrap up the small states as they would deliver more Electors per head of population, but in practice it is easier to concentrate on the biggest states such as California, New York, Texas etc as you'd get more Elector votes per campaign dollar spent.
How about a directly elected president?
Graham Ralph, Gravesend, UK
Electoral College votes are awarded (in all but 2 states) on "a winner takes all" principle. Consequently, a candidate may lose a state in a very close race and get NO electoral votes, while win overwhelmingly in another state.
Suppose there are only three states each with 10 electoral votes: State 1: 1 million for A; 900,000 for B. State 2: 1 million for A; 900,000 for B. State 3: 100,000 for A; 1,800,00 for B.
A wins with 20 electoral votes, although B has has over a million more popular votes.
