Avis rental car co. charges a $40 rental fee and a $15 gas charge and $0.45 per mile driven. budget rental for the same car charges a $45 rental fee and $0.55. how many miles would it take for both companies to charge the same amount to rent the car? what would that cost be?

Answers

To answer this question, we need to find the number of miles that would make both Avis and Budget charge the same amount to rent the car. Let's call this number of miles "x".

For Avis, the cost to rent the car for x miles would be:
$40 (rental fee) + $15 (gas charge) + $0.45x (miles charge) = $55 + $0.45x
For Budget, the cost to rent the car for x miles would be:
$45 (rental fee) + $0.55x (miles charge)
We want to find the value of x that makes these two costs equal. So we set them equal to each other and solve for x:
$55 + $0.45x = $45 + $0.55x
$0.10x = $10
x = 100

Therefore, if you rent the car for 100 miles, both Avis and Budget will charge you the same amount. The cost would be:
Avis: $55 + $0.45(100) = $100
Budget: $45 + $0.55(100) = $100

In general, it's important to compare rental car prices before making a reservation. While Avis and Budget have different rental fees and mileage charges, the cost of renting a car can vary greatly depending on the company, location, time of year, and other factors. Sometimes, it's more cost-effective to rent a car for a longer period of time, as some rental companies offer discounts for longer rentals. It's also important to factor in the cost of gas, insurance, and any additional fees, such as tolls or surcharges. By doing a little research and comparing prices, you can save money on your next rental car and make the most of your trip.

B.
The mouse was unaware of the wolf looking down at him.
C.
The wolf was chasing a pine cone, which was shaped like a mouse.
D.
One cold, winter morning when I went sledding with my friend, I saw a wolf.

Answers

Answer:

D. One cold, winter morning when I went sledding with my friend, I saw a wolf.

Explanation:

It makes the most sense given the context of the paragraph. The sentences seem to be about a wolf protecting his territory.

Option A makes it seem like it would elaborate on the hunt the wolf goes on to get its prey, however this does not flow well with a wolf protecting his territory

Option B looks like it was taken from the middle of a passage. No where do the sentences discuss a mouse so this would not be the answer

Option C once again does not mention a mouse further nor a chase.

In "And Then There Were None," Mr. U.N. Owen is a mysterious person who invited eight different men and women from the United Kingdom to Soldier Island. The only known thing about Soldier Island is that some millionaire had purchased it for his own entertainment. The identity of U.N. Owen is revealed in the novel. However, it is not clear why he brought everyone to Soldier Island and what his intentions are.

There is no direct evidence in chapters 1-4 of "And Then There Were None" that suggests why Mr. U.N. Owen brought everyone to Soldier Island. However, there are some clues that suggest that Mr. U.N. Owen may have lured them all to this island for a sinister purpose. For example, Wargrave announces his belief that they are dealing with a “dangerous homicidal lunatic”. Additionally, there are hints that Mr. U.N. Owen may not be who he claims to be.

Answers

Splicing stranded wires is a process that involves joining two or more stranded wires together to create a continuous electrical pathway. The following is the correct procedure for splicing stranded wires:

Step 1: Strip the ends of the wires You will need to remove the insulation from the ends of the wires before splicing them together. Strip approximately 1 inch of insulation from the end of each wire to expose the bare strands of the wire.

Step 2: Twist the strands After stripping the insulation, hold each wire separately and twist the strands of each wire together. This step will make it easier to connect the wires together and ensure a good electrical connection.

Step 3: Insert the wiresInsert the twisted ends of each wire into the splice connector. You should insert each wire into a different hole on the connector. If the connector has screws, tighten the screws to secure the wires in place.

Step 4: Test the connection After connecting the wires, test the electrical connection to ensure it is secure and working correctly. Use a multimeter or a continuity tester to check for continuity between the wires. Splicing stranded wires is a delicate process that must be done carefully to ensure a good electrical connection. Reverend Hale advises the suspected witches in Act IV to tell lies and confess their purported misdeeds in order to spare their own lives.

The once-confident Hale is now a broken man due to the failure of his attempts to change the course of events. His faith in the law diminishes as his belief in witchcraft does. He is the one who advises the accused witches in Act IV to lie and confess their alleged transgressions in order to save their own lives.

Hale wins the audience's sympathies via his change of heart and subsequent desperation, but not their respect because he lacks the moral character of Rebecca Nurse or, as it ends, John Proctor. Hale acknowledges the wrong of the witch trials, but he responds with submission rather than defiance.

How do you feel about the way black Americans used to be treated?

I always felt badly because our people were not treated fairly. We should have been free and given the same opportunities others had.

How did it feel not to have civil rights?

Of course it felt like we should all be free people and we should have the same rights as other people. In the South, at that time, there was legally enforced segregation. There were places black people couldn't go, and rights we did not have. This was not acceptable to me. A lot of other people didn't disobey the rules because they didn't want to get into trouble. I was willing to get arrested — it was worth the consequences.

When you were little, did you understand that black people weren't treated fairly?

When I was a young child I couldn't understand why black people weren't treated fairly. But when I did learn about it, I didn't feel very good about it.

How do you feel about the people who treated you so unfairly?

I don't think well of people who are prejudiced against people because of race. The only way for prejudiced people to change is for them to decide for themselves that all human beings should be treated fairly. We can't force them to think that way.

Were you allowed to learn to read when you were little?

Well, yes. I was born 50 years after slavery, in 1913. I was allowed to read. My mother, who was a teacher, taught me when I was a very young child.

The first school I attended was a small building that went from first to sixth grade. There was one teacher for all of the students. There could be anywhere from 50 to 60 students of all different ages. From 5 or 6 years old to in their teens. We went to school five months out of the year. The rest of the time young people would be available to work on the farm. The parents had to buy whatever the student used. Often, if your family couldn't afford it, you had no access to books, pencils, whatever. However, often the children would share. I liked to read all sorts of stories, like fairy tales — Little Red Riding Hood, Mother Goose. I read very often.

The Displaced Person Questions

Explain how the Shortleys were “displaced persons.”
Explain how Mrs. McIntyre is a “displaced person.”
Explain what the desk symbolizes about the Judge.
What are your thoughts about the following quote? What is it saying between the lines? Do you think Mrs. McIntyre is right? Is she equal to anything?:

“They’re all the same,” she (Mrs. McIntyre) muttered, “whether they come from Poland or Tennessee. I’ve handled Herrins and Ringfields and Shortleys and I can handle a Guizac,” and she narrowed her gaze until it closed entirely around the diminishing figure on the tractor as if she were watching him through a gunsight. All her life she had been fighting the world’s overflow and now she had it in the form of a Pole. “You’re just like all the rest of them,” she said, “--only smart and thrifty and energetic but so am I. And this is my place,” and she stood there, a small, black-hatted, black-smocked figure with an aging cherubic face, and folded her arms as if she were equal to anything.” (p.224)

Answers

The Shortleys were "displaced persons" because they had lost their farm in Georgia and had to move to another state for work.

Mrs. McIntyre is a "displaced person" in the sense that she is emotionally disconnected from her surroundings, even though she owns a farm and has lived in the area for years. The desk symbolizes the Judge's power and authority, as he uses it to control and manipulate those around him.

The quote reveals Mrs. McIntyre's deep-seated prejudice and sense of superiority towards people she considers "outsiders" or "displaced persons." She sees them all as interchangeable, without recognizing the uniqueness of their individual experiences and backgrounds. However, she also demonstrates a strong sense of pride in herself and her ability to handle any challenge, even one as significant as a Polish worker on her farm.

Ultimately, the quote exposes the underlying tensions and divisions between different groups in society and raises questions about the true meaning of equality and belonging.

Compare European imperialism in Africa and China. What in your opinion are the three most striking similarities??

Answers

Answer:

One similarity between European imperialism in Africa and China is that in both cases, European powers sought to extend their influence and control over these regions for economic gain. This often involved the exploitation of natural resources and the establishment of trading centers and colonies.

Another similarity is the use of military force to assert their power and control over these regions. In both Africa and China, European powers employed their superior military technology and tactics to conquer and subjugate local populations.

A third similarity is the impact that European imperialism had on the indigenous cultures and societies of Africa and China. In both cases, European imperialism led to significant changes in the political, social, and economic structures of these regions, often to the detriment of the local populations. These changes often resulted in the loss of traditional ways of life and the erosion of cultural identity.
